ONE PHILOSOPHY. EVERY PART OF LIFE.
You invest more than money.
Your time. Your energy. Your attention.
Give every commitment a thoughtful plan.
A clear way to begin. A meaningful way to stay. A graceful way to leave.

01 / HOLD™ MODEL BY ARRIE
Buy-in is the entry decision.
Horizon · Ownership · Limits · Decisions
HOLD gives every commitment a direction, a practice, boundaries and a way to decide what comes next.
Your deliberate decision to enter. You commit money, time, energy or attention to something you believe is worthwhile. Before you buy in, ask: why this, what must be true, and what am I giving up? Use HOLD to write your plan, check your entry conditions, then begin.

IN REAL LIFE / LEARNING A LANGUAGE
YOUR MASTER COMMITMENT
Write all four parts before you begin. Your plan becomes a reference for what you choose to do next.
EVERY REVIEW LEADS TO AN INTENTIONAL CHOICE
Keep the practice; set the next review.
Change the method or terms; test again.
Recognise the outcome; finish well.
Use your transition plan; redirect resources.
A reflection framework, not a prediction formula. Buy-in needs a reason; holding needs a practice; both need limits.
HOLD ON PURPOSE / THE EVIDENCE
Buy & Hold isn't about never letting go. It's about choosing on purpose, setting a Horizon, and not letting every bit of noise make the Decisions for you.
Holding for 3 months, 3 years or 30 years all counts. Decide the length before you start.
Put a check-in on your calendar. Until then, don't react to day-to-day moves. On that date, judge the hold against your original reasons.
Write down what would make you exit, such as your reasons changing, your need for the money changing, or a risk limit being hit. A price falling isn't enough reason by itself.
A 90-day habit, a 1-year course or a 5-year career bet all work the same way. Commit, give it time, and review on schedule.
Prospect theory (Kahneman & Tversky, 1979) found that losses weigh on us more than equal gains. A dip can feel like an emergency even when it isn't one.
Being overconfident makes us trade more, and in one large study the households that traded most earned the least.
We tend to sell winners too early and hang on to losers too long, because selling a loser means admitting it was a loss.
Whatever just happened feels like it will keep happening, so we buy after rallies and sell after drops.
Commitment & patience: A pre-set Horizon, written Limits and a review date move the Decision out of the heat of the moment. The same biases make us quit a gym plan after one bad week, or drop a skill right before it pays off.
Of 66,465 US households (1991–96), the most active traders earned 11.4% a year while the market returned 17.9%. The average household earned 16.4%.
The average dollar in US funds and ETFs earned 7.0% a year over the 10 years to 2024, versus 8.2% for the funds themselves. That gap of about 1.2 points a year comes from the timing of buys and sells. Funds with steadier cash flows had smaller gaps.
About 79% of active US large-cap funds underperformed the S&P 500 in 2025, and about 90% did over 15 years.
Missing the 10 best market days over 20 years would have cut annualised returns by almost half. The best days often come close to the worst ones.
Buy & Hold is a strategy, not a guarantee. It does not win in every period or against every approach. Markets can fall sharply and take years to recover, and a single stock may never come back. Holding works best when it's diversified, sized within your Limits, and matched to a real Horizon.

02 / ONE MODEL, YOUR WHOLE LIFE
See a complete worked example, try a guided exercise,
or define a custom commitment. Every path uses the same HOLD principles.
Different areas deserve different measures. Relationships need mutual consent and respect; health decisions need appropriate care. This model supports your judgment.
Stay loyal to what matters.
Stay flexible about how.
You can leave a method and keep the meaning.
Completion, adaptation and a thoughtful exit are all valid outcomes.
03 / FROM PHILOSOPHY TO PRACTICE
Give your next commitment a clear beginning,
a sustainable routine and a considered exit.
